After Blue Sky Studio closed, I worked for a couple years at Skydance Animation, and really enjoyed my time there. I started by working on their first feature, "Luck", which currently appears on Apple TV+. This was my first shot on the film, yet ironically the last shot that appears in the movie. It was a complicated one to work on, but very rewarding.
After "Luck", I moved on to the series "Wondla", where I help the Animation Director give notes, provide lots of draw-overs, and occasionally shoot reference for the animators in our vendor studio. I worked on every episode in the first season, and touched a couple in season two. It was my first experience with an episodic series and I learned a lot.
Curious George Project Firefly for Universal Pictures
A couple years after Disney shut down the Florida studio, I was working at EA Tiburon across town. A few of my old animator friends had started a small company called Project Firefly in Orlando. One of the first projects they secured was a portion of the feature "Curious George". I was very busy at the time as we were transitioning Madden from the PS2 to the next gen gaming systems. However, I ended up doing two shots for them on the movie. Besides being able to help some friends out, I was so pleased to get another opportunity to work on a 2-D animated film again. I had assumed after Disney stopped doing hand-drawn features, those opportunities were most likely behind me.
